One of the less discussed challenges for engineering students today is not the lack of opportunities but the overwhelming amount of scattered information. I’ve been thinking about this for a while now… There’s a pretty clear gap growing between what we learn in engineering college and what companies actually expect from us today. Most of what’s taught still feels very focused on DSA, exams, and theory-heavy stuff. And while that builds a foundation, it doesn’t really reflect how work is actually done in the industry anymore. In real jobs now, it’s a different game. People are building faster using AI tools, working with real systems from early on, shipping projects instead of just solving problems on paper, and generally learning by doing more than anything else. And honestly, that shift is pretty big. It sometimes feels like colleges are preparing students for an older version of the tech world, while the industry has already moved ahead. Not saying the basics aren’t important — they are. But maybe the way we learn and what we focus on needs to change a bit.
